Miss Aliya Bose, in her letter to the editor, warns that the American people should not be fooled by Barack Obama and that race is a key factor in his success.
It should be noted that Obama speaks about the politics of change. He wants to do away with the dominance of Washington. However, what is essential is that he wants to unite the people of the United States and this appeal is working for him. Hence, he has won a number of states traditionally dominated by white voters, with Maine being the most recent. He is also popular among white male voters and this is increasing daily.
We must remember that Bill Clinton injected race into the elections prior to the primary in South Carolina. Obama is what America needs-a new leader with a personality free of scandal and corruption. Can Hillary Clinton really speak to Americans about family life or morality? Voters in the United States are moving away from the politics of race, unlike their counterparts in Trinidad and Tobago.
