Racists (PNMites?) in the Police Force

Last Thursday, a young colleague of mine shared with me an
experience she had over the Carnival that had upset her.

On Carnival Tuesday she was playing mas, and was in the vicinity
of the Hall of Justice when she sat down on one of the steps—in
her Carnival costume. A policeman approached her, and calling
out “Coolie girl,” asked her to get up from where
she was sitting.

My friend who is of East Indian descent was not unnaturally
stunned by this incident, especially since she had some feeling
of belonging towards the Hall of Justice where she practises
law.
