Gangsters Move Into Maloney

residents, all speaking on condition of strict anonymity, revealed
yesterday that several notorious gang members and other criminals, who
all migrated from Laventille following recent police lockdowns there,
are renting a room at the homes of single parent women who are glad for
the quick and easy cash.

Fearing Maloney
could become a war zone with the influx of trigger-happy gangsters from
various crime gangs, the residents are begging police to institute
similar lockdowns in Maloney to flush out the criminals.

Residents lamented that abject poverty forced some of the single
parent women to accept the rent money from the gangsters. They added
that Maloney’s population consisted mainly of women and either the very
young or the elderly. There are hardly any men around. A woman told
Newsday that several of the men who had fathered children with women in
Maloney do not live there and do not even take care of their
offsprings.

The women whom Newsday spoke to, believe the lives of innocent
children are at great risk since at any given time, the gangsters could
break into and start shooting at apartment homes where they (the
gangsters) believe is occupied by rival gang members.

A month ago, Maloney was considered a relatively safe place to live
in. Not so anymore, the women said. Many legitimate residents spend
their days locked inside their homes. Only on Sunday, gunmen bent on
murdering the leader of the G Unit gang, shot him and several innocent
bystanders including a baby girl, at an apartment building in Maloney.
The gang leader who was shot three times, escaped with his life while
the innocent bystanders who were also shot, managed to live through the
ordeal.

On Tuesday night, 17-year-old Roshawn Williams, alias “Monster” of
Building Five, Maloney, who was reputed to be a gang member was shot
dead.

“It is hard for these single mothers and what is happening here is
that some of those cash- strapped women are allowing their apartments
to be used as “hideouts” for some of the criminal elements,” a woman
said.

She added that the G-Unit gang now controls Maloney and some youths
who are fatherless and were left without guidance have already been
lured into the gang with promises of easy money and good times.

Mothers said that if the police do not act now, Maloney will become
just like Laventille and several innocent people could be killed.
Officers at Maloney Police Post have been unable to deal with the
escalating crime because of staff shortage.
